Why winter swim lessons?

In Winnipeg, summer is short and winter is long. A lot of kids only get in the water from June to August, and every spring they start over — the floating, the kicking and the confidence all have to come back. A week of winter swimming lessons keeps those skills going through the cold months, so your child is ahead when summer, cottage and beach season come back around.

Five days in a row

Your child swims at the same time Monday to Friday. Daily lessons build on each other while the last one is still fresh — kids make more progress in one week than in five weekly lessons spread over a month.

One group per slot

No crowded classes. Each 45-minute time slot belongs to one group, so your swimmer gets Juliette’s full attention. Friends or siblings can share the slot for $150 per child.

After-school times

Lessons start at 3:30, 4:25, 5:20, 6:15 and 7:10 PM, so they fit after school and work. Pick the week and time that suits your family and book online in a minute.

Ages 3–6

Preschool

Water confidence and the first big skills: front and back floats, glides, kicks and blowing bubbles, plus water safety for little ones. A gentle way to keep preschoolers comfortable in the water over the winter.

Ages 7+

Swimmer

Front crawl, back crawl, water entries and endurance, with self-rescue and water-safety skills. A winter week is a great time to work on strokes before the next summer season.

Pre-Bronze

Rookie, Ranger &
Star Patrol

For stronger swimmers working toward Bronze: endurance, stroke work, self-rescue and basic first aid through the Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life program.

Swimming in a Winnipeg winter

What to bring

  • Swimsuit (and swim diaper for little ones)
  • Towel, goggles if you have them
  • Long hair tied back or a swim cap
  • Warm clothes, a hat and mitts for after

After the lesson

Leave a few extra minutes to change. Dry hair well and bundle up before heading out — Winnipeg evenings in November get cold fast.

Nervous swimmer?

Totally normal, especially after months out of the water. Let us know when you book and we’ll take it slow — nobody is pushed before they’re ready.

Winter lesson questions

When are the winter swimming lessons?

Two weeks in November: November 2–6 and November 9–13. Each week is five 45-minute lessons, Monday to Friday, at the same time each day. Times are 3:30–4:15, 4:25–5:10, 5:20–6:05, 6:15–7:00 and 7:10–7:55 PM.

How much do they cost?

$195 for one child, or $150 per child sharing the same slot, for the full week of five lessons.

What ages are they for?

Ages 3 and up — Preschool (3–6), Swimmer (7+), and the pre-Bronze Rookie, Ranger and Star Patrol levels. Not sure which fits? Tell us what your child can do now and we’ll suggest one; the first lesson doubles as an assessment.

Are they private lessons?

Each time slot belongs to one group, so your child gets the instructor’s full attention. Friends or siblings can share the slot.

Where in Winnipeg are the lessons?

In a small private pool in Winnipeg. For the family’s privacy, the address is shared once your spot is confirmed.

What if we miss a lesson?

Let us know as early as you can and we’ll do our best to offer a make-up time when one is available.
